What a fun personal challenge to take on! I love these little reviews and have added several to our library list - I’ve been documenting all the adult books I read in 2024 but my four year old has discovered some real gems so I might need to start tracking his too!

Picture books are so great! I'm so glad you've found some to add to your library list.

Margaret---what a great idea for your son! That would be such a treasure to have----your LIFE in books! I started tracking mine in 2013 but would love to have that list of youth that was so coloured by Ramona Quimby (Beverley Cleary), Judy Blume, Ralph the Motorcycle Mouse, Roald Dahl, How to Eat Fried Worms, anything about Bigfoot...please, start that list for him to carry forward!

I did a two-word review of every book I read this year (in 2023, I did one-word reviews). If you're up for a challenge, I'd love to see your list! https://julestorti.substack.com/p/my-year-in-books-a-love-story-really

I love the two-word idea! As much as I tried to crank out a semi-thorough review of everything I read this year, it just isn't sustainable so boiling it down to just a few key words is perfect!

It's funny how brevity can sometimes be the bigger challenge! I never fared well on Twitter (and yes, I dropped off before X). It was so limiting with the stiff character count but look at me now! If you do a two-word review, be sure to tag me!

Laura, this brought tears to my eyes -- not only for your joy, which I never tire of (regarding this project or otherwise) but for my own, in seeing how many of these were my recommendations. Lately I've been wondering if my work matters -- if anyone reads my posts, if I'm making any kind of difference -- and of course you showed me ten times over that it does, and they (you) do, and I am. "Thank you" isn't a big enough phrase to encompass my gratitude, but it's what I have, so, thank you.

Aw, this brought tears to my eyes! I am so, so grateful for you, and your joy is also a part of my joy! Your work matters so much and your recommendations are deeply, deeply appreciated by me (and many others). It makes me so happy that so many of these books came into my life because of you. Big love to you. 💛

Hi Sarah, you just never know who is reading you and when! I used to have a blog on Wordpress (circa 2009--2021). A writer from Bored Panda reached out to me truly out of the blue about a post I wrote in 2015 about growing up in the 70s. It all matters and sits quietly in wait like most good things do.

I'm a mad book fan, of course. Long live libraries!

I'm so beyond excited for this list, especially since these weren't on my radar and now I have a ton of new picture books to start the new year with :)

This made for a really fabulous cup of coffee, Laura! Thank you for the walk through your picture book wonderland. I was recently introduced to an artist named Salpi Boulghourjian Simitian--she's a member of The Writer's Union of Canada and illustrated the union's holiday message. Her work is so mesmerizing---I actually reached out to her to see if I could buy her drawing of the fox nestled in the trunk of the tree. You can take a peek at her whimsical drawings (and books) here: https://www.salpi.me/illustrations

There are so many great books in this list. A few we've read but even more I need to check out from the library. I had to go back through some of my lists to find my favorites: Mr. Posey's New Glasses, The Perfect Sofa, Just Snow Already, Roar of a Snore, Dear Dragon, and The Summer Nick Taught His Cats to Read.

Oooh, thank you! I will definitely have to check these out.

Thank you for sharing all this joy! I read Mrs. Biddlebox after you raved about it. Fabulous. I've just placed a bunch of library holds, including all the Winter ones. My fave from-childhood book is Horrible Hepzubah, words by Edna Mitchell Preston and pictures by Ray Cruz.

Yay! I love hearing that you've put in some library holds. And that book looks awesome but looks like my library doesn't have it...will have to check the statewide catalog!
