I LOVED this Laura. I always thoroughly enjoy your pictures of trees and flowers. As winter is here, I was thinking the other day how much I appreciate reading about your love for the season in my inbox. Not many people love winter and want to be negative about it, but there is so much positivity about winter from you I just adore it. Thinking of you xxx I hope you’re cosy and reading somewhere
I also forgot to comment on the last post but I love the 40 books before 40 idea.
Things I really love rn: books, dogs, sunlight around sunrise or sunset when it comes through the trees, butterflies, seeing bats at dusk at the moment, being around people, going to the cinema, soup and my collection of jumpers AND pyjamas. (The last one feels capitalism esc but I really do enjoy them)
HI Laura---this was a fun post and I ate the clickbait up! We have a shared love for pileated woodpeckers (they fill our woods with laughter and hammering), The Watermelon Woman (instant flashback to seeing this film under the stars at the Michigan Womyn's Festival so many years ago), blue snow shadows and that White2Tea company packaging is pure cool. I love that you created a 40 before 40 list (as a fellow bookhugger and Virgo who loves lists). I think you'll appreciate this list I made of 50 to-do's for my 50th. You have another decade to sort this out! Thanks for sharing your random loves--I've now added to my book list too! https://julestorti.substack.com/p/on-turning-fifty
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and I love hearing about some of the loves we share! (I love all woodpeckers, but pileated woodpeckers are really amazing.) And thanks for sharing your 50th birthday to-do list, I do LOVE a good list!
I read Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins (again) earlier this year to see what captivated me so much at 19. Now there's a list to create, Laura---rereading what you loved at a certain age! I love the cover of Robbins book and I love being surrounded by the pileated woodpeckers up here in northern Ontario. Where do you live?
Cool! You'll love that we have a tattoo studio here called the Electric Woodpecker. I think it's time for me to re-read She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb and The Tao of Pooh!
I will be returning to this list all day today and for many, many days to come. Thank you for tending to my question with such care and attention and love. We are so lucky to be your readers/fellow earth dwellers.
So much love to you today and all the days. Thank you for not being afraid to be a tender human in this very hard world. 💗 (Or being one despite/alongside being afraid, anyway.)
one thing I love the most is this newsletter!
🥰🥰🥰
I was crying before I even clicked any of the links to see the things listed that you love. Thank you for always guiding me back toward tenderness.
These are the best words to wake up to. Sending love and tenderness your way. 💛
Finally had time to read this. I love reading about reading, which is why I love this newsletter.
Other loves include:
- sunrise
- my collection of 40+ baby cacti / adorable tiny pincushions that I grew from seed
- Macbeth performed by talented and enthusiastic high school students (my niece played Lady Macbeth and she was stunning)
- woodpeckers
- sand dunes
Thank you for this Laura.
I love this list of things you love! Many things I love, too, and also, what an amazing cacti collection! From seed!?! So cool.

I'm so glad you enjoy my winter love! And I totally think loving your jumpers and pajamas is totally a worthwhile love.
I have a copy of Oh Witness Dey! I can send your way if you want.
Oh I would love that!
Okay, will do!

I'm in Western Massachusetts. (And yes, I love the idea of rereading books from past decades. I've done a bit of that!)

That is amazing !
