I love this. I love what you wrote about our shared faves, Hanif and Carvell. I also love that you after'd Rosamond. What a delight. I too love that construct in poetry and it gave me warm fuzzies seeing it here. Maybe my own Glimmer.
It's 100% where I am this week, but your calling me your friend (even though of course I am your friend, but seeing it written out, on the screen) made me cry. I'm grateful for you, Laura, and I'm thrilled you've found such joy in picture books, AND, I'm over the moon that you love Do Not Open. My youngest was absolutely obsessed with it when she was about 4yo and now that she's 7, it's still one of her all-time favorites (as in, I have found her asleep with it in her arms on more than one night).
Aw, Sarah, this comment made ME tear up. Yay for long distance internet friendship and being real and picture books! I can totally imagine a kid being obsessed with DO NOT OPEN, it's so good on so many levels! Thank you for bringing it to my attention, and for all the joy you bring to my life.
Laura this means so much to me. You are a writer and thinker I so deeply admire. We are absolutely "after" each other and man what a thing. Grateful for you.
Looooved your comments on ‘Another Word For Love’ and ‘A little devil in America’ - I want to read both very badly so I absolutely love to hear how much you loved them! I’ve actually never read any Abdurraquib before (shocking I know) and I just hear the most wonderful reflections about his work. I feel like I’ll love him, and perhaps in someways that is making me prolong until I get round to reading him (make it make sense). Do you think Little Devil would be a good place to start with him? Although I’m sure it doesn’t matter too much.
Also adored the writing about the lake - sounds divine. I envy you being so close to such glorious water and to be able to get into it everyday! Living the dream! X
Aw, thank you so much, Martha! I am so excited for you to read Abdurraqib! (And also Another Word for Love). I totally know what you mean about putting off reading authors you know you'll love...I don't know why, but I do it too. And I think you can start anywhere with him. My favorite is There's Always This Year, but I think A Little Devil is a great place to start too.
I'm so glad you enjoy my lake writing! The least I can do is share little pieces of it....
Noted! I’ll keep you in the back of my mind for when the time comes to pick my first! And I want to read Laura’s lake writing forever! I love the little pieces you are sharing xx

Oh, well I love THIS! I'm so so glad I FINALLY read A Little Devil, I can't believe it took me so long!
