I am so ready to have cooler temperatures. I'm a knitter, and I want to be wearing all the cozy wool socks I've been knitting, and enjoy my handmade blankets and sweaters. Oh, and dear lord it would be great to drink coffee or tea HOT without feeling like my insides (and outsides) are melting. I'd also like to bake without heating up the whole house.
I wish I could stay perpetually in autumn—it's always too short, and I find myself not wanting it to come because I know it will be over too fast (and unlike you, I am NOT a winter person—I thrive in the sunshine). But for now, I'm enjoying having my windows open and a breeze rolling through my house (my plants sure are happy with that too!).
It would be easier for me to tell you what I'm *not* looking forward to about fall and winter, because that list is much shorter (like one, maybe two things total), but in the interest of participation: the colors of the changing leaves! The crisp fresh air! The dark coming earlier and earlier! THE END OF DAYLIGHT SAVINGS, THANK YOU, GOD! Hot oatmeal for breakfast! Soup! Bread! Halloween! Snow! Christmas! Subzero temperatures! Cross-country skiing, hiking, ice fishing, anything outdoors! January!
Sarah, we are surely kindred spirits! Let me tell you the way I gasped with glee at your delight in "the dark coming earlier and earlier!" And daylight savings time can ROT IN HELL! Yes, yes, yes! It is really a joy to encounter other winter lovers. I am looking forward to all of those things, too! Also candles! Twinkly lights! Teatime! Being out in the cold, coming in from the cold! HATS! Jars of winterberry all over the house. I am getting overly excited, I need to stop.
I had kind of a meltdown -- at work, no less -- the day I heard that Daylight Savings might become permanent. My coworkers were celebratory and I was nearly in tears. (DST sucks for all sorts of reasons, but as a parent of small children, it's a total nightmare every single year.)
Here's a question for you: are there (awesome) winter things that you think are unique to California? I'd love to hear about them.
Haha, I don't know, I am very much in Massachusetts and very much not in California! I am one of those very annoying east coast people who just cannot understand why anyone would want to live on the west coast! (I mean, yay for people who live there and love it! It is a wonderful privilege to love where you live! But I have been there and it's not for me.)
I get it. I mean, I voluntarily live in the place I was born and raised, a super underrated fly-over state that I love to my core and plan to never leave. My husband can go be buried in southern Indiana, where he is from -- my ashes will land on the ground and water of Wisconsin, thank you very much. (Actually we both want to be buried in mushroom suits, but MY mushroom suit will enrich the soil here and nowhere else.)
I *like* other places, I just don't want to live there.
I'm from Argentina and fortunately the winter is almost over here. So I'm more than ready for the summer! I'm really looking forward to long walks at the beach with my husband and my dog.
As you may have guessed, I cannot relate to wanting winter to be over, but I am so delighted that you are excited about it! I wish you the loveliest long beach walks!

Yes! I can so relate to wanting to bake without turning the whole house into an oven.
I am looking forward to a December of cookie content! :)
Ha, true to form! xo

Autumn is truly glorious!

I had a meltdown that day, too. In fact, I think I did cry. So I truly, truly feel you.
Wait, why did I think you were in California?... you're in Massachusetts, right?

I'm the same way. I was born and raised here, I lived in a few other states for some brief stints, I came running back, I will not be leaving.
HOW COULD I FORGET SWEATERS....!
Crisp air, red leaves, cold soaking rain and bare trees
There's nothing like cold soaking rain and bare trees! Our month is coming!
I cannot wait to wear cozy sweaters. I also can't wait for the crisp cold evenings when I soak in my outdoor hot tub!!
Yes! Cozy sweaters! They are lined up in my closet and waiting.
